Repetition or obsession

Have you ever watched a three-year-old do a simple activity like pressing a doorbell and then running, laughing, or making the same noise or singing the same song again?

An 8-year-old can spend hours drawing or making up stories or reading four books in a day.

We often think children are adorable when they repeat the same activity but in adults, we can find it more of an obsession and think it’s troubling behaviour.

If I like a certain meal, I may have it every day for lunch or tea for a few weeks until I want to try something else.

I may have a routine that I like to do most days. I like to wear a backpack each day and feel underdressed without it.

Are my behaviours repetitive, obsessive or just part of being organised?

Some behaviours are accepted in some people but may be psychological behaviour in others.

I am wondering if we can discuss different behaviours, routines etc. that we may notice in adults or children and think they may be cause for concern.

Moodscopers, do you have a behaviour or routine that you may think is helpful but others may have commented on?

As I am not a morning person, I put my clothes out the night before especially in winter when I wear many layers. Family members feel this is me regressing to a child, but it is helpful to get me organised.

Are words like repetitive or obsessive helpful?
