One of the reasons that writing for Moodscope is good is that people often share things that have helped them get out of a dip. We all know how heavy it feels to be pressed down and so any little crowbar is welcomed.
CMM shared something, in the comments of a recent blog of mine, which I think is vital to our wellbeing and it deserves its own spotlight. In bereavement, CMM has decided a great way to “be kind to yourself” is recognising that there is only one person to please. Having ‘please myself’ moments is such a strong arm in fighting low mood. I smiled as I read:
“I please myself and sit watching the trees turn gold as the sun sets behind the sea”
“I please myself and make a cup of tea at odd times”
“I please myself and eat 3 slices of cake for my daily one meal a day”
It is a powerful freedom. It inspired me to make a ‘please myself’ dinner that weekend which involved nothing more than putting parma ham, tomatoes and olives on a plate and adding hot and salty oven fries. For somebody who cooks a lot it was such an enjoyable freedom. An aim and a boost. Both worked for me. Thank you CMM.
