What if we were to have our own Wellbeing Oktoberfest? Instead of beer (or including beer), we would choose one action for October that would get us more motivated for the months ahead!

Understanding our core motivators is a superpower for mental wellbeing. This October, choose the ‘one’ action below that most sparks your interest. It’s likely aligned with your dominant motivator, making it a powerful boost to your happiness and energy. [I’m using the model of Nine Motivators created by James Sale.]

The Defender

Action: Create a "Security Saturday" Ritual.

Dedicate one morning this month to a simple, comforting ritual. It could be organising a cupboard, reviewing your finances, making a hearty soup for the week, or creating a winter preparedness checklist. This tangible act of creating order and predictability directly nourishes your need for stability.

The Friend

Action: Rekindle a Connection.

Reach out to one friend or family member you haven't spoken to in a while. Schedule a cosy coffee, a phone call, or even send a handwritten note. Investing intentional time in a one-on-one relationship fulfils your core need for deep, meaningful belonging.

The Star

Action: Share a Personal Win.

Challenge yourself to share an accomplishment—big or small—with your connections. It could be a finished project, a personal goal met, or a skill you've mastered. Allowing yourself to be seen and celebrated meets your need for recognition.

The Director

Action: Mentor for 30 Minutes.

Offer your expertise to a connection. Using your knowledge to influence and empower others is a direct source of satisfaction.

The Builder

Action: Execute a "Money Minute" Tidy-Up.

Take 15 minutes to cancel one unused subscription, find one better deal on a recurring bill, or list one unwanted item for sale online. This small, decisive action to improve your material resources provides a quick and satisfying return on your time.

The Expert

Action: Dive into a "Micro-Skill."

Pick one small, interesting topic related to your field or hobby—like the history of a tool or a specific grammar rule. Spend an hour this month deeply researching it. This act of focused learning satisfies your drive for mastery.

The Creator

Action: Capture an Autumn Idea.

Go for a walk without your phone. Take a notebook and pen, and let the colours and crisp air spark one new idea—for a project, a story, a recipe, or a solution to a problem. Sketch or write it down without judgement.  This honours your need to generate and express what is new.

The Spirit

Action: Block a "Spur-of-the-Moment" Slot.

Intentionally block out a half-day in your calendar this month with the label "My Time." When the slot arrives, do whatever you feel like in that moment—no plans allowed. This protected, unstructured time is pure fuel for your independent spirit.

The Searcher

Action: Perform a "Meaningful Micro-Moment."

Your action isn't huge; it's deeply intentional. Consciously buy a coffee for the person behind you, write a heartfelt thank-you note to a mentor, or spend 20 minutes volunteering for a cause you care about. This small act of making a difference provides profound meaning.
