I usually have hundreds of ideas tangled in my washing machine mind. Some weeks the washing machine is empty, or the few ideas I have seem really silly and not worthy of a blog.
A well-known Australian columnist once said that there is always a drawer in one’s house full of bits and pieces and he writes about that and often another idea springs to mind. My trouble is I have many drawers, cupboards, and rooms full of a potpourri of items. I have written about my drawer of miscellaneous items many years ago.
Many people have a special name for a room where people come and read or play or listen to music, we called it the rumpus room as children and friends call it everyone’s room as everyone uses it.
Sometimes my mind goes blank when I am talking and I forget what I am saying or where the sentence is heading. I call it my lost sentence. People offer to finish it, but I often need time.
I like asking questions and most of my blogs have many questions, or end or starting with a question.
When I feel my mind is blank or that I am being too fussy I try to think of strategies that have helped before. I think when I am tired or stressed, I start to worry that my ability to generate ideas for blogs has left me forever.
What are the names for your drawer of odd and ends or for special rooms in the house that other people may have different names for? When your mind goes blank can you share any helpful activities that stop the blankness? Do you think it is better to relax rather than trying to face the blankness? What do you do when your mind goes blank while talking? Do you have ways of stopping the blankness?
