The title may lead you to an initial thought that is not my intended meaning! I don’t mean family-friendly films, I mean films that have become part of your family’s tradition. Many families fall into the lovely ‘tradition’ of watching certain films over and over again until that film feels like part of their family’s story. This is a great topic to share on!
Christmas is a good season for this, “Oh we ALWAYS watch ************** film every Christmas.” What would fill the ************ for you or you and your family?
We are a wonderfully weird bunch in my clan. Here are some of the movies you’re likely to be exposed to if you’re invited to join the inner circle..
“Dead Poets Society,” – Robin Williams explaining that given we are all “food for worms” we need to “carpe diem” – seize each day with passion and purpose, compassion and grace.
Secondly, lest you think of us too highly for our first choice…
“So I Married An Axe Murderer,” pre-Shrek platform for the star of Wayne’s World and Autin Powers (baby!) No deep meanings here but it perfectly matches the family’s delightfully eccentric quirkiness… and once you’re ‘in’ you’ll understand the quotes from this movie that often slip irrelevantly and irreverently into conversations.
Thirdly, simply silly with a romantic twist and a cameo background of Corfe Castle near where I lived in Dorset…
“Just Visiting,” starring Jean Reno, Christina Applegate, Christian Clavier, Malcolm McDowell, Tara Reid, and Bridgette Wilson. Fall off the sofa funny. “Courage is our creed.”
There’s more but request an invitation to join our clan if you wish to move to the initiation stage!
We’re more interested today in your ‘what’ and ‘why’ of movies you cherish.
Time to pop the popcorn (and the champagne) and watch a good movie together – even if we are apart physically, we can share the same movie, like sitting under the same moon.
