Are challenges challenging?

How many times do you read on social media about personal challenges, health challenges, challenging one’s fears and completing a challenge can change your life?

These are challenges you choose for self-improvement include:

- A physical task like running or walking a certain number of kilometres or doing certain number of sit-ups etc.

- Learning a new skill like a new language or learning to play an instrument.

- Giving up alcohol or sugar etc for a certain period of time.

These are life challenges that require you to cope, such as:

- An illness or disability.

- Grieving for a loved one.

- Moving to a new town, state or country and coping with changes.

These life challenges can be very difficult if one does not have support. The challenges are not chosen by us but happen to us and it can be overwhelming.

Examples of personal challenges:

- Feeling one is stuck: A challenge to find hobbies, or work or volunteering.

- A challenge to manage to be more relaxed and lessen worry.

Have you challenged yourself in last few years ?Did you do it alone or with a group?

How challenges lead to growth:

- Challenges can make you learn skills or update old ones.

- Successfully navigating a challenge builds the ability to handle difficulties.

I once went 31 days only drinking tap water. I got support from others doing the same challenge. It didn’t change my habits because as soon as it was over I was drinking mineral water and tea.

Why do some people like challenges? Do you like joining a public challenge? Do you find taking on a challenge helps you understand your strengths and weaknesses, and how to cope with future challenges?
