September is here and in my head it has always reminded me of a new start.
A new year at school often meant a new form teacher, books, maybe a new pencil case if I was lucky…usually some new pens and pencils.
Oh the smell of something new… leather satchel (sigh) new leather shoes or even my sister’s hand me downs (woohoo!) new and old book smells! Maybe new class mates to make friends with… no, not their smells!
I also loved having a liddle more freedom if it was a ‘major move’ at school: the biggest one was going into the 6th form. Being a "first year sixth pupil" meant responsibilities: ‘leading the walk onto the stage’ for morning assemblies with the Heads of school and Depts, looking at nearly 1000 pupils and staff in the school hall looking at you! Being on duty in the corridors when the bell went for ‘first dinners’ and kids would come running from all directions to fling their bags in a huge corner and run to the canteen, trying to get to the head of the queue!! All had to be kept in decent order… huge responsibility for a liddle bear who was 5’ 4" when some of the kids were 6’!!!
Is this September a fresh start for you?
Can you start a new book? A book to read or one to write in? Maybe just a new page… isn’t it wonderful to write on the right hand side, having all the fresh pages to rest upon or is that just me ?!
There are ‘Pound’ (£) shops here - so buying pens, pencils, a notepad might not cost too much or you can find notebooks in charity shops so having something new, just for you, might give you a liddle boost and get you jotting things down, drawing or colouring, doodling away and letting your mind wander… books to read, new or second-hand good reads. Support your library whilst you still have one or have a book-sharing day in your village. Ask if an empty, disused phone box can be made into a sharing library? Ask at your village hall or pub if a space can be made for book sharing? Plastic lidded boxes are left outside a farm here, where you can buy a book then drop it off after you’ve read it, for someone else to buy - 50p - £1 per book, for charity.
New courses for fitness or body or mind start now in September - learning a new language, learning more about yourself.
Lovely Moodscopers, can your fresh start not occur in the depths of a wintery 1st of January (northern hemisphere) but now in September, with it’s changing colours, conkers and all the beauty of autumn, watching the children in their new school uniforms being led to the playground or run for the school bus!
What will your September bring and if it’s a fresh start, what will it look like for you?
Love and Bear hugs x x x
